Oahu - The Gathering Place

Most flights to Hawaii go to Honolulu, unfortunately there is not much of an organic farm scene going on here. If you want to see Waikiki Beach, there are a few hostels in downtown Waikiki. (They are in noisy areas). Info at the airport. The North Shore is famous for surfing (Sunset Beach).

Oahu 1
We have a 1 acre farm on the North Shore of Oahu. We practice a form of farming called Yoko organic farming, which is a method of observing nature, using positive words, organic techniques and transmitting the divine light of God onto the land and production process for the purpose of spiritually elevating so that we can better tune in with God. My husband and I are not farmers. We are farmer today because we are on a spiritual mission. In June of 2001 we became a classified organic farm. Our mission is to clean up this land and to give back to the community clean healthy, spiritually rich foods. We are looking for people who are also on a spiritual path. We need people who are savvy in operating small equipment. Anyone with soil management and building, landscaping, tree trimming, irrigation/plumbing, carpentry, masonry or electrical experience is a big plus. Accommodations: includes place for a tent, a bathroom/shower, a refrigerator and 2 loads of laundry a week. Meals: 2 organic/macrobiotic type meals are provided on days worked (lunch and dinner). Work requirements: On alternating weeks: 2 weeks a month: 5 days a week, 7 hours per day (exclude lunch time). 2 weeks a month: 4 days a week, 8 hours per day. Please contact us preferably 1 month prior to your scheduled stay. References appreciated. There will be a 2 week trial period, and a 3 month limit unless otherwise discussed. (Editor’s comments: beautiful area, high up on hill, in residential area, not rural yet sort of rural, re-visioning their possibilities for their small property, have lots already going on)

Oahu 2

In Transition, please only phone at this time. General help needed - serious volunteers only. Tenting platform or other possibilities; operator of a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) business. In the winter it rains a lot, so be prepared; try to make people aware of the need for good quality food. Oahu 5
We’re located on the North Shore of Oahu with a 1 acre permaculture small farm.. Serious (apprentice) inquiries only with references requested. Details upon acceptance .The surfing place ! !

Oahu 6
Our farm is on beautiful North Shore Oahu, a short walk to the ocean. We are in early phases, but have permaculture/ whole system plans laid out. We do a lot of hacking back of California grass, and are experimenting w/ sheet-mulching and cover cropping around our very small garden and nursery. We have a few chickens and goats. We are looking for honest people for which we can provide either shorter term camping or longer term partially-compensated-for indoor lodging.

Oahu 7
We have an Organic Farm that has a CSA program. We have around 20 members and looking to get more. We work our 1 arce property by hand. We have friends with land as well that would like to start an Organic farm. The accommodations would be tent space over top of weed cloth and mulch, with outdoor kitchen, composting toilet and outdoor shower. We are planning on building a living space in Febuary for WWOOF’s, a roofed area with kitchen and bathroom, it would be nice to have some volunteers to help with this project as well. We are vegetarian (no meat, fish or eggs) and would like the volunteers to be as well, we’re not to fancy with food, you’ll be eating mostly from the garden with brown rice, tofu, pasta and ice cream on occasion. We have great surf all year around 5mins away, beginner to advanced. Please check out the website for photos and videos of our farm and the surrounding area.

Oahu 8
Our farm is a six-acre organic and permaculture farm started in 2005. We are focusing our marketing immediately around the North Shore through sales to Farmer’s Markets, a roadside produce stand, CSA food boxes, and to local stores and restaurants. We are growing a diverse range of year-round vegetables and fruits. We use compost, cover crops, crop rotations and nutrient rich foliar sprays as a foundation for our organic practices. We are two miles from Haleiwa town, two miles from beautiful beaches and are nestled in the foothills of the Wai’anae mountain range. Large tents are provided for sleeping accomodations, with a community kitchen and bathroom.

Kauai - The Garden Island

Kauai is a very beautiful island and “attracts” MANY young alternative people. Many young people find their own “scene” here. Recommend going to Kapaa first (Kauai International Hostel in Kapaa Tel. 808 823 6142 - will pick you up at the airport for about $10 (taxi is $20) (but I feel obliged to say, that I have heard complaints regarding this place- cleanliness & management attitudes towards women); there is another hostel you might also want to check out in Kapaa; it’s the Kapaa Beachhouse, Tel. 808 822 3424.

It was very difficult accessing info on the organic farm scene here. Many young people have “found” work/trade exchanges on farms here, yet these farms are reluctant to become WWOOF hosts. There seems to be a real problem with accommodations for volunteers here, yet the island is full of young people. If you are “attracted” to go to Kauai - it offers some spectacular hiking possibilities and beaches - be prepared for a different scene. Great Natural Food Store in mall besides Safeway.

Kauai 1
Our farm is a multigenerational system & our aquaculture-agro forestry farm has recently expanded to 35 acres all hardwood trees & construction bamboo. Primary production: fish culture, taro & fruit trees. Accommodations: private room. Food: free run of the kitchen. Always need helpers. No tobacco please. (Editor’s comments: Don is a very knowledgeable, hospitable and interesting person, full of energy and enthusiasm; it was a real wonderful treat to spend time with him at his secluded Valley Farm, has a lot to offer! You will need to convince him that you too, have a lot to offer. You can learn a lot from Don - about everything!! Don’t even think of going here if you smoke! Might NOT be organized )

Kauai 2

Kauai 3
On Kauai, we are an Organic, fruit farm, based on self sustainability & Permaculture. We also morph in & out of a community vibe. We are looking to have approximately 12 people for the winter. We have only 2 or 3 spaces available as of 11/20/2004. Come heal yourself as well as this Aina (mother earth). Kauai is a long way off, only contact us if you are serious or are already coming this way. We rise early to offer service from 8:00am until noon Mon thru Fri. The rest of the day is for you. You can offer more service, but if not, please do not just “Hang Out”. The farm is a VEGETARIAN space! One Love provides bulk items for the community kitchen (grains, beans, condiments—basic essentials), there is space for one to store personal food items. The kitchen is on a deck under a tarp, as are most residences. There is outdoor shower/tub w/hot water. Definitely a place to work with the land & to heal, but NOT to hang out or to entertain guests ! There are NO OVERNIGHT GUESTS ALLOWED, EVER! We are all learning together how to grow our own food. How to live more sustainably & more harmoniously. We work with compost, green manures, mulching, using Nitrogen Fixing Trees & feeding trees. We are learning to propagate different species of plants to continue our self-sustainable focus. Focus being the yay word. Please only contact if you can truly work for four hours straight!

Beach-front home on the lush east-end of Molokai; yard is mostly lawn and brush with plenty of room for organic garden beds for vegetables and flowers. I don’t know that much about organic gardening but would like to learn. This is an opportunity for someone to be creative with a garden space. There is 1BR/1BA spare room or camping available. I’ll be gone most of June and July, so a potential Wwoofer would have the full house to themselves.

Molokai 8
